‘I Knew The Few’ & ‘The Blast of War’ – a unique afternoon for Battle of Britain and Second World War enthusiasts with author Dilip Sarkar MBE FRHistS and special guest Jim Nicolson, nephew of Flight Lieutenant JB Nicolson VC, presenting ‘Battle of Britain VC’.

Itinerary

1300 hrs – 1400 hrs: ‘I Knew the Few’ – Dilip, who has undoubtedly interviewed and corresponded with more of the Few than any other researcher over nearly forty years, will relate the exciting stories of and discuss his long friendships with some of the many Battle of Britain pilots he was privileged to know. This session will be visually supported by a unique PowerPoint illustrated with photographs from the pilots’ personal albums.

1400 hrs: Comfort Break – the adjacent University cafeteria will be open for refreshments.

1430 hrs: ‘Battle of Britain VC’ –  Jim Nicolson will provide an illustrated PowerPoint, and take questions, concerning his uncle, Fighter Command’s only Second World War Victoria Cross, Flt Lt James Brindley Nicolson.

1530 hrs: Comfort Break.

1545 hrs:  Dilip presents ‘The Blast of War’, covering his research and work generally, in particular regarding the issue of those still, sadly, Missing in Action and lack of closure for families. ‘The Blast of War’ perfectly explains how these casualties resonate today, as the effect reverberates down the generations. Indeed, this is the underpinning theme of Dilip’s new book, ‘Arnhem 1944: The Human Tragedy of the Bridge Too Far’.

1630 – 1700 hrs: Dilip will take questions.
